Moving Storage in Luxembourg: How to Store Your Things Between Two Homes
Last updated: October 2026
In short: when the day you leave your old home does not match the day you get the keys to the new one, a storage unit saves you from moving everything twice in a rush. At StorageSpace in Luxembourg City (Cloche d'Or), you book a unit from 1 to 60 m² online, for one month minimum, with 30 days' notice, no deposit on private units and insurance up to €2,500 included. You get in 24/7 with your smartphone. This guide helps you choose the right duration and size, and plan moving day.

Why use storage when moving in Luxembourg?
In Luxembourg, moves rarely line up perfectly. The situations we see most often:
You leave your rental before you get the new keys. Your lease ends on one date, the handover of your new home happens on another.
Your new-build flat is delivered late. On a construction site, a few weeks' delay is enough to leave you without an address.
You sell before you buy. The sale and the purchase are not signed on the same day.
You renovate before moving in. Paint, floors, kitchen: the furniture has to go so the tradespeople can work.
You are arriving in Luxembourg and starting in a temporary furnished flat while your container is on its way.
You are going abroad for a few months and do not want to pay rent on an empty flat or fill up a relative's garage.
In each case, the storage unit is your buffer. You empty the old home on the right date, hand back the keys calmly, and move in when the new place is really ready.
How long should you keep your things in storage?
The right duration is the gap between your two dates, plus a safety margin. At StorageSpace it works like this:
Minimum term: 1 month. Ideal for a gap of a few weeks.
Automatic monthly renewal, with no long commitment.
30 days' notice to stop. If your move-in date slips again, you do nothing: the rental simply continues.
For 12 months or more, a discount is available on request with a code from our team. Useful if a building project drags on.
Our advice: book as soon as you know your move-out date, and only give notice once you have the keys to the new home in your hand.
Which unit size do you need for a move?
You rent floor space, and you gain a lot of room by stacking well. As a guide:
Size | What usually fits |
1 to 3 m² | Boxes, suitcases, documents, seasonal decorations |
5 to 10 m² | The furniture of one bedroom or a small studio |
15 to 25 m² | The contents of a full flat |
50 m² and more | A large house, or business stock |
For a precise answer, use our Space Calculator or send a photo of your belongings on WhatsApp (+352 661 31 32 22). We will tell you which size to take, without making you pay for space you do not need.

Do not forget to count: the bike, the suitcases, the sports gear and everything sleeping in the cellar. They are often what makes a unit overflow.
Your Luxembourg moving timeline
6 to 8 weeks before
Fix your two dates: leaving the old home, moving into the new one.
Work out the gap and the unit size you need.
Ask movers for quotes, or book a van.
Sort through everything: sell, donate, throw away. Every box less is space you do not have to rent.
2 to 4 weeks before
Book your unit at booking.storagespace.lu. Booking is fully online and you receive confirmation by email.
Tell your employer. In Luxembourg, employees are entitled to 2 days of special leave for moving, once per 3-year period with the same employer, unless you move for professional reasons. The leave is taken at the time of the move (source: guichet.lu).
Start packing what you will not need before moving in.
Moving week
Keep a separate "first days" bag: papers, chargers, medication, a few clothes.
Install the One Access app to open the building and your unit.
Take photos of the old home for the check-out inspection.
After moving in
Declare your arrival to your new commune within 8 days of occupying the new home. The new commune takes care of removing you from the old one's register. If you are leaving the country, the departure declaration is due no later than the day before you leave (source: guichet.lu).
Collect your things from the unit at your own pace, then give your 30 days' notice.
Packing well before storing

Boxes of the same size stack better and higher.
Heavy items at the bottom, light and fragile boxes on top.
Label two sides of every box: contents and destination room.
Take apart what you can: table legs, beds, shelves. Keep the screws in a bag taped to the furniture.
Put what you will not need at the back, and what you might want before moving in at the front.
Leave an aisle if your unit allows it, so you can reach the back without unloading everything.
Our units are climate controlled, around 20 to 25 °C depending on the season with about 40% humidity. No need to wrap your furniture in plastic as you would in a damp cellar: a dust cover is enough.
Moving day at StorageSpace: how it works
The facility is at 11, rue Eugène Ruppert, L-2453 Luxembourg, easily reachable from Luxembourg City centre.
You drive into the building. Parking is free and indoors: you unload under cover, even in the rain. Note the 2 m height limit underground. With a taller van, park above ground.
You load the trolleys provided and take the goods lift to your floor.
You open with your smartphone. The One Access app works over Bluetooth, so even without mobile signal. WiFi is free throughout the building.
You store, you lock, done. Come back whenever you like, 24/7, 365 days a year.

The building has 24/7 video surveillance, access is restricted to registered customers and every entry is logged. Toilets are available. Even though everything is automated, our team is always reachable by phone, email or WhatsApp, usually within an hour on WhatsApp and email.

What you cannot store
For everyone's safety, some items are not allowed: hazardous materials, flammable liquids (petrol, paint thinner, gas canisters), explosives, perishable food, live animals or plants, illegal substances and firearms. Empty and clean fridges and washing machines before storing them.
